The City of Grants Pass has announced plans to transform the Owl Parking Lot at the corner of 5th and H Streets into a dual-purpose space featuring parking facilities and a public plaza for community events. Construction for the new Owl Plaza is slated to begin in 2025, and ahead of this major redevelopment, the City has launched a unique “Buy-a-Brick” campaign, inviting residents to leave a lasting mark on the project.
For $250, individuals, families, civic groups, and local businesses can purchase a commemorative brick to be embedded in the patio area of the new plaza. Each brick will feature a brass plaque engraved with up to three lines of text, creating a personalized addition to the community space. These bricks will be placed near the 5th and H Street sidewalks, forming part of the plaza’s foundation.
The City has made 470 bricks available for purchase, offering community members a chance to cement their legacy while supporting a project that will enhance public spaces in Grants Pass.
Guidelines for Customization
Participants can submit text with up to three lines, limited to 18 characters per line, including spaces. Examples of acceptable submissions include family names, such as “The Smith Family,” or individual names like “Bob and Mary Smith.” The City has specified that text must be limited to names only; slogans, quotes, and phrases will not be accepted.
Should a submission be deemed inappropriate, the City will notify the buyer and allow them to revise their text. If no compromise can be reached, a full refund will be issued.
Purchasing and Payment
Those interested in purchasing a brick can do so by completing a form online or visiting City Hall in person at Suite 202, 101 NW A Street, Grants Pass, Oregon. Payments can be made by check, credit card, or cash.
The City is encouraging early participation as the limited number of bricks is expected to sell quickly. By purchasing a brick, residents can leave a permanent imprint on the new Owl Plaza while contributing to the revitalization of downtown Grants Pass.
