(BREAKING NEWS) – The House of Representatives approved several foreign aid bills, forwarding them to the Senate as a consolidated package. Among these measures, $60.8 billion in aid was allocated to Ukraine, $26.38 billion to Israel, and $8 billion to the Indo-Pacific region, which notably includes Taiwan. Additionally, one of the foreign aid bills incorporated a provision targeting TikTok.
An amendment attached to the TikTok provision bill passed by a margin of 249-267. This amendment mandates the Treasury Department to furnish a report concerning Iranian assets and exemptions to sanctions.
A separate bill focusing on providing $8 billion in military assistance for the Indo-Pacific region, including Taiwan, saw significant support in the House, with a vote count of 385-34-1. Democratic Representative Rashida Tlaib from Michigan was the sole member to abstain from voting. The House also endorsed the Ukraine foreign aid bill by a vote of 311-112-1.
The House endorsed the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act with a vote of 366-58.
During the voting process, some Democrats briefly displayed Ukrainian flags, prompting House Speaker Mike Johnson to remind them of the prohibition against waving flags on the floor.
In an earlier session, a Republican-sponsored border security bill failed to pass, falling short with a vote count of 215-199. Presented under suspension, it did not attain the requisite two-thirds majority. Notably, this bill was distinct from the aforementioned foreign aid measures.
