Every once in a while, you stumble across a restaurant that reminds you why exploring Southern Oregon’s local food scene is so rewarding. My latest foodie adventure took me back to Talent, where I stopped in at Hula Grill, located at Legend Cider, and I’m glad I did. If you’re a fan of authentic Hawaiian-inspired comfort food served in generous portions, this is one destination that deserves a spot on your list.
As someone who has always enjoyed Hawaiian cuisine, I walked in with high expectations. The combination of savory grilled meats, perfectly cooked rice, and classic island-style sides is hard to beat when it’s done right. Fortunately, Hula Grill lived up to those expectations from the very first bite.
For this visit, I ordered the Teriyaki Chicken, served with a generous helping of steamed rice and traditional macaroni salad. Before I even picked up my fork, the presentation made it clear that I wasn’t leaving hungry. The portion size alone offered excellent value, but it was the quality of the food that truly stood out.
The chicken was tender, flavorful, and cooked just right. Every piece was coated in a rich teriyaki glaze that struck an excellent balance between sweetness and savory flavor, with just enough of a subtle kick to keep every bite interesting without overpowering the dish. It was the kind of sauce that complemented the chicken instead of masking it, allowing the natural flavors to shine through.
The rice provided the perfect foundation for the meal, soaking up every bit of that delicious teriyaki sauce, while the creamy macaroni salad offered the cool, comforting contrast that has become a signature side dish in Hawaiian plate lunches. Together, the combination created a meal that was satisfying from beginning to end.
One of the things I appreciate most when visiting locally owned restaurants is when they focus on doing the basics exceptionally well rather than trying to overcomplicate the menu. Hula Grill embraces that philosophy. There are no unnecessary gimmicks—just quality ingredients, generous portions, bold flavors, and friendly service that make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive.
The relaxed setting at Legend Cider only adds to the experience, creating an enjoyable atmosphere where you can sit back, enjoy a great meal, and take your time. It’s the kind of place that feels equally suited for a quick lunch, a casual dinner with friends, or simply satisfying a craving for authentic Hawaiian comfort food.
While this was my first visit, it certainly won’t be my last. There are several other menu items that caught my attention, and after this meal, I’m already looking forward to coming back and trying something new.
