As the holiday season approaches, the Josephine County Animal Shelter is experiencing an overwhelming influx of animals in need of homes. Despite recent adoption successes, the shelter is struggling to keep up with the rising number of pets arriving at its doors.
In the past week alone, 13 dogs found their forever homes thanks to generous community support and waived adoption fees. However, this victory was short-lived as the shelter received an additional 40 dogs, adding to an already crowded facility. Beyond dogs, the shelter is also caring for cats and even a rabbit, emphasizing the critical need for more adoptions and resources.
The shelter is the only facility in the area taking in dogs, making it a vital resource for abandoned, stray, and surrendered animals. However, the increasing number of animals has stretched their resources to the limit. To address the crisis, the shelter is sponsoring free adoptions to encourage community members to open their hearts and homes to a new furry family member.
“We’re thrilled about the 13 adoptions, but the reality is that we’re bursting at the seams,” said a shelter representative. “We urgently need help to cover adoption fees and provide care for the new arrivals. This mission is only possible with the support of our community.”
Community members are encouraged to contribute in several ways:
- Adopt a Pet: The shelter is waiving adoption fees through Wednesday, providing an excellent opportunity to find a loyal companion just in time for the holidays.
- Donate: Financial contributions can be made through their official fundraiser or directly on their website at Save the Whiskers. Donations help cover the costs of medical care, food, and other essential needs for the animals.
Every act of kindness, whether adopting a pet or contributing financially, helps give these animals a second chance at life. “Your kindness makes all the difference,” the shelter emphasized.
With the holidays approaching, there’s no better time to make a difference. Whether you’re ready to welcome a new pet into your home or simply want to support the shelter’s lifesaving efforts, now is the time to act.
