To the Community,
Our local commissioners in Josephine County are leading us down a dangerous path by dismantling our 4H and Educational Extension programs. These actions not only rob us of valuable resources but also serve their own self-interests, which have become evident since the 2022 election. It’s clear that short-sighted individuals are more interested in exploiting the community than in fostering an educated society.
Instead of tearing the community apart, we should focus on finding solutions. We must work together to find ways to fund our programs rather than discarding them. I am hopeful that the upcoming November election, with candidates like Pat Fahey, will bring the change we need.
How can our council members ignore the voters who approved 4H funding by a majority? We are the taxpayers and constituents. We invest in education and future generations, not just in land developments. Mr. West’s focus on his housing developments at the expense of the community is misguided. Redirecting our taxes to fund his projects, including roads and utilities, is unacceptable.
Herman Baertschinger, also known as “B-Man,” seems intent on benefiting himself and his allies. Since January 2022, he’s been making moves to protect his interests at the expense of ours. His latest actions, including the developments at Dog Creek and the appointment of his allies, show a blatant disregard for our community’s needs.
Our commissioners are stealing land intended for future generations, particularly old-growth forests. They seem to excel at taking what isn’t theirs. It’s time for us to stand up and protect our future, not just the next 50 days.
Commissioners, remember that you are public servants. We expect you to act with integrity, not engage in unethical practices. Education in ethics should be mandatory for all incumbents. It’s time to govern with moral principles, not personal gain.
