It’s funny how quiet things have gotten, isn’t it?
For the better part of the last year, a few loud voices couldn’t scream “fake news” fast enough every time the Grants Pass Tribune published a story they didn’t like. Week after week, month after month, we stood firm, telling the truth — even when it wasn’t convenient, even when it made some very powerful people uncomfortable. And now, almost overnight, the “fake news” accusations have evaporated into thin air. Strange, right?
Maybe it’s because the other media outlets have finally caught up. Maybe it’s because some of the so-called “trusted” sources, the ones people clung to in denial, finally had to admit what we already reported months ago. Or maybe it’s because reality has a funny way of catching up with everyone — no matter how many times they try to outrun it.
You all saw it. Whether you liked our style of reporting or not — whether you preferred something a little softer, a little more polished, or a little less direct — the simple fact is, we never lied to you. We never bent the truth to make someone look better. We never rewrote reality to fit an agenda. And we sure as hell never betrayed the readers who trusted us to tell it straight.
For those who spent their time calling us fake news, for those who hid in their little cliques following their “Messiah” or whatever leader told them what they wanted to hear — how’s it feel now? Eyes open yet? Maybe now you understand why we’re here. Why we do what we do. And why we’ll keep doing it, no matter the cost.
This newspaper was built for the people and by the people. We didn’t get here through corporate funding or political alliances. We got here by telling the truth, even when it cost us. And believe me, it did cost us. Frivolous lawsuits, lost friendships, lost business opportunities — all because some people couldn’t handle what the truth looked like when it wasn’t dressed up in a pretty little bow.
So, for those who stood by us — thank you. Thank you for believing in what we’re doing. Thank you for understanding that real journalism isn’t about being popular; it’s about being honest. Thank you for seeing the value in a publication that isn’t for sale to the highest bidder.
And to those who turned their backs on us, who ridiculed us, who thought smearing us would somehow change the facts — we don’t need your apologies. We don’t need your approval. We already accomplished exactly what we set out to do: We got the truth to the people.
You’re welcome.
Welcome to reality.
Welcome to the Grants Pass Tribune.
