The Josephine County Fairgrounds’ Covered Horse Arena has received a much-needed upgrade, thanks to a generous donation from Saxon Painting Company and PPG Paint. The donation, which was used to repaint the bleachers inside the arena, is part of an ongoing effort to maintain and improve the facility, which has been a staple of the community since its construction in the 1950s.
Built with the guidance and support of the Josephine County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse, the Covered Arena has been a crucial part of the fairgrounds for decades, serving as a venue for training, community events, and local gatherings. Despite its long history, the arena is still actively used by a wide range of groups, including youth equestrian clubs, local rodeos, and even traveling circuses.
Tamra Martin, the Director of the Josephine County Fairgrounds, expressed deep gratitude for the donation, highlighting the importance of the arena to the community. “The arena is at the heart of the history of the Fairgrounds and is used daily by the community,” she said. “We are so grateful for the support of Saxon Painting and PPG Paint Company who worked so hard to make this happen by the rodeo.”
The Covered Arena, which is used year-round, has undergone several upgrades over the past six years. These improvements have included a new roof, exterior renovations, foundation improvements, upgraded lighting, and renovated restrooms. However, the recent bleacher painting marks a significant visual enhancement to the facility, just in time for the McCaslin Rodeo—the largest event held at the arena outside of the Josephine County Fair.
The rodeo, which took place last weekend, saw thousands of attendees, further demonstrating the arena’s central role in the local community. The donation of a fresh coat of paint has rejuvenated the appearance of the venue, providing a cleaner and more welcoming environment for both participants and spectators.
The Josephine County Fairgrounds, home to a variety of events, continues to serve as a vital gathering space for locals and visitors alike. With ongoing improvements and the support of local businesses like Saxon Painting Company and PPG Paint, the fairgrounds remain a cherished community asset.
“It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do!” said Martin. The efforts of these local companies have not only improved the look of the arena but have also helped ensure that it remains a safe and enjoyable space for years to come.
