Washington, DC – The House Select Committee, which investigated the events of January 6, allegedly deleted hundreds of files shortly before the Republicans assumed the majority in the lower chamber in January. According to Oversight Subcommittee chairman Barry Loudermilk, R-Ga., who is leading a separate probe into the Select Committee, the Oversight Subcommittee of the House Administration Committee had requested all documents related to the investigation.
Chairman Loudermilk claims that specific transcribed interviews and depositions to the White House and the Department of Homeland Security are among the missing documents. After conducting a forensic analysis of the submitted data, Loudermilk’s letter accuses Select Committee chairman Bennie Thompson of deleting material on January 1, 2023, just days before the GOP gained the majority in the House. Loudermilk also alleges that materials were saved under undisclosed passwords.
Loudermilk expressed his concern, stating, “It’s obvious that Pelosi’s Select Committee went to great lengths to prevent Americans from seeing certain documents produced in their investigation. It also appears that Bennie Thompson and Liz Cheney intended to obstruct our Subcommittee by failing to preserve critical information and videos as required by House rules,” in an interview with Fox News Digital.
He has requested the White House and the Department of Homeland Security to comply with his request by January 24. Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., has shown support for the probe on social media.
