Washington, DC – A recent special counsel report has raised concerns regarding the handling of classified documents by President Joe Biden and his aides. According to The Washington Post, the report by special counsel Robert Hur, appointed by Attorney General Merrick Garland last year, focuses on the discovery of classified documents at Biden’s home and former office. The documents in question date from Biden’s tenure as vice president and were found in 2022 in Wilmington, Delaware.
While the report is critical of the handling of classified materials, it does not recommend any criminal charges against President Biden or his associates. The findings are expected to be officially released in the coming days.
In a parallel development, former President Donald Trump, a potential opponent for Biden in the upcoming presidential election, is currently facing charges related to the alleged mishandling of classified documents. The 77-year-old Trump pleaded not guilty in June to charges that include unlawfully retaining national defense information, conspiracy to obstruct justice, and making false statements.
Another special counsel, Jack Smith, indicted Trump, accusing him of endangering national security by retaining top-secret nuclear and defense information after leaving the White House. The indictment alleges that Trump kept these files, which included records from the Pentagon, CIA, and National Security Agency, unsecured at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida and impeded official efforts to retrieve them.
According to Biden aides cited by The Washington Post, the presence of classified documents at the president’s home and office was unintentional and attributed to “sloppy staff work.” It is noteworthy that the report does not propose criminal charges against President Biden or his team in connection to the handling of these documents.
