Some restaurants simply serve food. Others create an experience that sticks with you long after the last bite. During a recent stop in Talent for an episode of “Dadcast Goes Foodie,” we had the opportunity to sit down with the owners of Super Smash Burgers and finally see what all the local buzz has been about.
Joining me for the visit was my podcast partner, JP, and what started as a casual interview quickly turned into one of the more memorable burger stops we have had in Southern Oregon this year.
I decided to order the Luau Smash Burger, a creative combination featuring locally sourced Cherry Street beef patties topped with grilled pineapple, jalapeños, melted cheese, and teriyaki sauce from Noho’s Hawaiian Cafe, all layered together on a soft brioche bun. JP kept it classic with the original smash burger, giving us a chance to compare both sides of the menu.
From the first bite, it was obvious these burgers were crafted with attention to detail. The patties carried that signature smash burger texture with crisp, caramelized edges while remaining juicy and flavorful in the center. The Luau Burger balanced sweet and savory flavors exceptionally well. The pineapple added a fresh burst of sweetness, the teriyaki sauce brought a rich Hawaiian-inspired flavor, and the jalapeños delivered just enough heat to keep every bite interesting without overpowering the burger itself.
The original smash burger proved that simplicity still matters. Sometimes a great burger does not need complicated ingredients. Quality beef, proper seasoning, fresh toppings, and careful preparation can speak for themselves, and that was exactly the case here.
What impressed us just as much as the food, however, was the atmosphere and the people behind the counter. During the “Dadcast Goes Foodie” podcast interview, the owners spoke openly about their passion for family, community, and building a business that feels welcoming to everyone who walks through the door. That sense of pride and personal investment could be felt throughout the restaurant.
In many ways, places like Super Smash Burgers represent the heart of small-town Southern Oregon dining. They are not massive corporate chains built around speed and volume. They are locally owned businesses fueled by hard work, personality, and a genuine desire to create something meaningful for their community.
Talent has quietly continued developing its own unique food culture over the last several years, and restaurants like Super Smash Burgers are helping shape that identity. The restaurant delivers more than just another burger stop along the highway. It offers creativity, consistency, and an experience that feels personal from the moment you walk in.
For burger lovers traveling through the Rogue Valley or residents simply searching for something different from the ordinary fast-food experience, Super Smash Burgers is absolutely worth the drive. Between the quality ingredients, bold flavors, and welcoming atmosphere, this is the kind of local restaurant that reminds people why supporting small businesses matters in the first place.
