Rep. Pat Ryan expressed frustration with the NFL’s decision to broadcast a playoff game exclusively on the streaming platform Peacock, labeling it a historic move. The House Democrat criticized NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and NBC Sports for this decision, particularly targeting the Chiefs-Dolphins game, which will only be available on Peacock for the majority of the country.
In a letter addressed to top NFL and NBC officials, Rep. Ryan, a New York Democrat, voiced his concerns about the inconvenience imposed on his constituents, who already subscribe to NBC. He argued that it is unreasonable for them to pay an additional fee to access the game on Peacock. Ryan questioned the need for more profit at the expense of hardworking Americans and demanded that the NFL and NBC reconsider their decision.
Expressing discontent with the situation, Ryan emphasized the financial burden on fans who already face high costs to watch games during the regular season. He described the move as a bait-and-switch, especially impacting consumers who have NBC included in their cable packages. This is not the first time Rep. Ryan has spoken out on this issue, and he conveyed his displeasure by writing to both Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner, and Rick Cordella, the President of NBC Sports.
