The City of Grants Pass has announced temporary downtown street closures to accommodate Art Along the Rogue, the community’s annual street art festival set to run October 3 through October 5. The event, known for transforming pavement into a canvas for chalk artists and drawing visitors from across the region, will require road and parking lot closures throughout the weekend.
According to city officials, closures will begin early Friday morning and continue until Monday morning to allow for setup, the festival itself, and cleanup. H Street will be closed between 4th and 6th streets, and 5th Street will be blocked off between G and I streets. These closures will go into effect at 7 a.m. on Friday, October 3, and remain in place until 9 a.m. on Monday, October 6.
In addition to street closures, two public parking areas near the center of the festival grounds will be inaccessible. The Osprey Lot, located at the southeast corner of 5th and H streets, and the Owl Lot, on the northeast corner of the same intersection, will also be closed for the duration of the event. Both lots are commonly used by downtown visitors and businesses, meaning attendees and residents may need to plan ahead for alternative parking.
The City has advised motorists to avoid driving through the downtown core during the festival, as no through traffic will be allowed in the designated closure zones. Emergency vehicle access will also be restricted within the closed areas, underscoring the need for residents and visitors to take alternate routes. Surrounding streets will remain open, and traffic control measures will be in place to help direct drivers around the festival area.
Art Along the Rogue has been a staple of Grants Pass cultural life for years, bringing together professional and amateur artists to create elaborate chalk drawings directly on city streets. The event includes live music, food vendors, and family-friendly activities in addition to the street art. Organizers expect significant foot traffic downtown, which city officials note is part of the reason for the extensive street closures.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to allow extra travel time, especially over the weekend, and to plan routes that avoid the downtown area unless attending the festival.
