Ashland, OR – Rogue Theater Company (RTC) is set to kick off its highly anticipated 2024 season with the captivating play “Off Peak” by Brenda Withers. Directed by the talented Robynn Rodriguez, the production stars Robin Goodrin Nordli and Michael Elich as two former flames unexpectedly reunited during an evening commuter train ride.
RTC’s Artistic Director, Jessica Sage, expressed enthusiasm about the cast and director, referring to them as a “family reunion.” Nordli, making her third appearance at RTC, Elich in his second (also set to perform in “August: Osage County” later in the season), and Rodriguez directing for the third time, bring a level of comfort and collaboration to the stage. Sage described the rehearsal hall as an exciting space where the artists explore the complexities of their characters.
The play, centered around the characters Sarita (Nordli) and Martin (Elich), delves into the rekindling of their relationship. As a musician and writer, the duo had a passionate and tumultuous past while pursuing their dreams in New York City. Meeting years later on a train, now on more practical paths, they unravel fresh details about their shared history in real-time.
Sage highlighted RTC’s commitment to pushing artistic boundaries, announcing a play reading of Tracy Letts’s “August: Osage County” and a diverse lineup including Marie Jones’s hilarious “Stones in His Pockets,” featuring Dan Donohue and Ray Porter, and the poignant “Gidion’s Knot” by Johnna Adams.
“Off Peak” runs from March 13 to March 31 at Grizzly Peak Winery, with shows at 1 pm, Wednesdays through Sundays. Ticket prices range from $30 for the preview on March 13 to $45 for the opening on March 14, which includes wine and a talkback with the actors and director. All other shows are priced at $35. Prefaces before select performances offer additional insights.
