San Diego, CA – The U.S. Marine military helicopter that went missing in Southern California has been located on Wednesday morning, according to the U.S. Marine Corps. The CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter was declared “overdue” to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on Tuesday night after departing from Creech Air Force Base near Las Vegas and heading towards Miramar in the San Diego area. Five Marines were on board, and a search and rescue operation is currently underway.
Upon realizing the helicopter was overdue, the Marines sought assistance from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and Civil Air Patrol. The sheriff’s department received a call at 1:50 a.m. and dispatched its own helicopter for the search. Unfortunately, due to the atmospheric river storm affecting the region, the helicopter was unable to reach the designated area. Subsequently, the sheriff’s department deployed off-road vehicles to navigate the challenging terrain in the ongoing search efforts.
