Dear Editor,
Josephine County politics, at the commissioner level, has recently yielded both wild and unsustainable theatrics. Notably, the spectacular recall of John West and the unglamorous resignations of Mssrs. Blech and Barnett. In dramatic and stunning defeat, these inglorious three have left a stain on our entire county.
Then we have Simon Hare, fantastically resigning while looking to amplify his narrow standing by calling out the undue diligence of the remaining characters. (And let’s not forget Mike Sellers!) What does this tell us, dear reader? Simple. These self-styled individuals have exactly one person in mind when seeking higher office(s): themselves. They seek an audience and a pot ($$) to pull from.
Transitioning to today, with the recent addition of Ms. Martin and Mr. Richardson, in congruence with Mr. Ron Smith, we now have stability in government. Transparency and honesty. I can think of no logical reason to depart from that pattern. We need to retain Colene Martin, and the staff members she has publicly endorsed, Dustin Calvo (Treasurer) and Rhiannon Henkels (Clerk). It’s just that simple. Vote to give Josephine County the stability and firmness needed to continue the job.
Likewise, we need to fill that final seat with someone who has a proven track record of public service and self-sacrifice. Mark Jones is that candidate. Done and done.
Respectfully,
Mark Collier.
