Taco Tuesday recently led me to Tamales con Alma Cocina Mexicana, after my friend Jeff McLean insisted it was a place I needed to try. I’m glad I listened.
Whenever I visit a new restaurant, I tend to start with one of my personal go-to orders: chicken flautas, also known as rolled tacos. It’s a straightforward dish, but when prepared properly, it can say a lot about a kitchen’s attention to detail, flavor, and overall quality.
At Tamales con Alma, the flautas made a strong first impression. They arrived fresh, crisp, and full of flavor. One of the first things I noticed was the tortilla. Instead of the smaller versions commonly used, these were made with a larger corn tortilla, giving each flauta a more substantial, satisfying bite.
The portion size was generous, and the flavor stood out with every bite. The balance between texture and seasoning was noticeable, making it clear that care went into the preparation. For Taco Tuesday, the price was another welcome surprise. Three flautas for $9.50 is a solid value, especially when considering both the portion and the quality.
Finding a place that delivers on both flavor and value is always a win, and Tamales con Alma managed to do just that. It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to come back and try more of the menu.
If you’re looking to change up your Taco Tuesday routine, this is a place worth adding to the list.
Now I’m curious what others are doing for Taco Tuesday. Are you making tacos at home tonight, or heading out to explore what local kitchens have to offer?
