Get ready Grants Pass, a powerhouse lineup of Pacific Northwest musicians is set to deliver an energetic night of live music as three bands come together for the Rock on the Rogue Count Your Blessings Bash. The event takes place Saturday, November 22 at The Sound Lounge in downtown Grants Pass. Doors open at 8 p.m. with music beginning at 9 p.m. Admission is ten dollars at the door and the show is open to audiences twenty one and older.
The evening features Rio Scale, a Portland based group known for weaving heavy, melodic and complex layers drawn from multiple genres. The band has built a reputation for pushing sonic boundaries through a combination of technical musicianship and a collaborative approach among its members. Brandon Mikel performs vocals, bass and guitar, while Danny Barbettini adds vocals and synth. Nick Snyder contributes on bass, guitar and vocals, and Jason Moore anchors the sound on drums. Moore has spent more than two decades creating music and art throughout the Pacific Northwest. The group recently released the single Head Down, recorded at Primal Recording Studio, marking another step forward in its evolving catalog.
Joining the stage is Stoning Giants, a band recognized for blending elements of rock, metal, punk, soul and funk into a distinct sound shaped by its four member ensemble. The band includes vocalist Lawrence Sawyer, guitarist C. J. Ries, drummer Damon Sawyer and bassist Jedediah Jester. Stoning Giants recently completed its latest album Finger in the Air with Grammy winning producer Sylvia Massy, who also contributed backing vocals. Formed in 2013, the band released its first album Clear as Mud in 2014, gaining airtime on KINK and 94.7 FM in Portland. In 2019, the group followed with the single Sifting Ashes, a reflective piece inspired by the 2018 Camp Fire.
Rounding out the lineup is After the Rain, a group rooted in Grants Pass with origins tracing back to the late nineteen eighties and early nineteen nineties. Over the years the band has developed a style that blends gothic influences with post punk textures. Current members include guitarist and vocalist Scott Watkins, drummer Nick Zacchino and bassist Joe Dinkowitz. After the Rain was originally formed by Watkins, Zacchino, Leslie Stevens on synth and keys and the late Jerry Wilson on bass. The band continues to perform with Watkins and Zacchino as its long standing core, adding guest musicians as needed. Dinkowitz joins the group for this show as its newest addition.
The Sound Lounge, located at 225 Southeast H Street, will host all three bands for a night designed to showcase the region’s diverse musical talent. Additional details about the venue and upcoming events can be found at facebook.com/TheSoundLoungeGP.
