A two-decade journey through progressive rock will arrive in Southern Oregon this month as Pigs on the Wing brings its 20th anniversary “Animals” tour to the Rogue Theatre on Friday, April 17.
The Portland-based band is presenting a two-set concert built around a complete live performance of Animals, one of the most ambitious and structurally complex releases from Pink Floyd. First released in 1977, the album marked a shift toward longer compositions and sharper thematic focus, driven in large part by Roger Waters. Its exploration of power, hierarchy, and social division remains one of the band’s most distinctive works.
The Grants Pass performance will recreate the album in its entirety as the opening set, maintaining the original sequencing and musical depth that defined the record. Known for its layered arrangements and extended instrumental passages, “Animals” presents a technical challenge that few live acts attempt to perform in full. Pigs on the Wing has made that challenge central to its anniversary production.
The second half of the evening will broaden the scope, featuring selections from across the Roger Waters era of Pink Floyd. The set is expected to include a mix of well-known material and lesser-performed tracks, offering audiences a wider perspective on the band’s catalog during one of its most influential periods.
Formed in 2006 as a one-time club performance, Pigs on the Wing has since evolved into a long-running touring act throughout the Pacific Northwest. Over the past twenty years, the group has built a reputation for combining musical accuracy with a live performance style that allows room for interpretation. Rather than strictly reproducing studio recordings, the band incorporates elements of improvisation, reflecting the approach Pink Floyd often took during its own live shows.
That balance between precision and flexibility has become a defining feature of the group’s performances. It also distinguishes the band from more traditional tribute acts, positioning its concerts as both a recreation and a reinterpretation of the original material.
In addition to the music, the “Animals” tour emphasizes a strong visual component. The production includes synchronized lighting and projection elements designed to complement the structure and tone of the album. These visual elements are intended to create a more immersive environment, aligning with the large-scale concert experiences that became a hallmark of Pink Floyd’s live performances.
The band’s lineup includes Matt Sulikowski on saxophone, Matt Jones on keyboards and vocals, Bryan Fairfield on drums, Jason Baker and Dave Lindenbaum on guitar and vocals, Holly Brooks on vocals, and Eric Welder on bass and vocals. Each member brings extensive experience from the Pacific Northwest music scene, contributing to a sound that is both cohesive and adaptable.
Doors for the April 17 performance will open at 7:00 p.m., with the concert beginning at 8:00 p.m. The event is open to those 21 and older, and tickets are priced at $39.50 for general admission.
For local audiences, the show represents a rare opportunity to experience a full-album live performance of “Animals” in a theater setting. Combined with a second set spanning one of rock’s most influential eras, the evening is positioned as both a retrospective and a live interpretation of music that continues to resonate decades after its release.
