Veterans throughout Southern Oregon will have an opportunity Friday to connect face-to-face with support organizations, health care representatives, and benefit specialists during a regional outreach event being held at Riverside Park in Grants Pass.
The event, scheduled for Friday, May 22, from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., is designed to help veterans and their families navigate the often complicated process of accessing federal and community-based services. While initially promoted through White City veteran outreach channels, organizers say the event is open to veterans and military families throughout Josephine County, Jackson County, Klamath County, and surrounding communities.
Set against the backdrop of Riverside Park along the Rogue River, the gathering is expected to bring together representatives capable of helping veterans enroll in health care, access mental health support, explore educational benefits, and obtain housing or employment assistance. The event will also focus heavily on practical support for veterans facing financial hardship, food insecurity, caregiver stress, or concerns tied to toxic exposure during military service.
For many former service members in rural Southern Oregon, access to resources can sometimes feel fragmented or difficult to navigate, especially for those living outside larger population centers. Events like this one are intended to close that gap by bringing multiple services together in one accessible location.
According to the event announcement, veterans attending Friday’s outreach will be able to receive information about VA mental health programs, caregiver support services, career assistance, and women’s health care options through the Department of Veterans Affairs. Organizers are also encouraging veterans who may not currently be enrolled in VA health care to attend and learn more about their eligibility.
The outreach effort comes at a time when veteran homelessness, rising housing costs, mental health access, and long-term health complications connected to military service continue to affect communities across Oregon. Southern Oregon, in particular, is home to a large veteran population, including many retired service members who relocated to the region for its smaller communities and rural lifestyle.
Concerns surrounding toxic exposure remain another major focus nationwide as veterans continue seeking answers and medical support connected to burn pits, chemical exposure, and environmental hazards experienced during deployments and military operations. Friday’s event will offer information regarding available VA resources tied to those concerns and what veterans may qualify for under current programs.
The outreach also extends to military families and caregivers, many of whom often serve as the front line of support for aging or disabled veterans. Organizers say the event is intended to create direct connections between veterans and the agencies or programs that can help stabilize housing, improve health care access, or guide individuals through benefit enrollment.
The event will take place at Riverside Park, located at 304 East Park Street in Grants Pass.
For veterans unable to attend in person, several online and phone-based resources remain available through the Department of Veterans Affairs. Veterans interested in enrolling in VA health care can apply online through the VA website, apply by phone, or visit a nearby VA medical facility in person.
