One of the greatest rewards of writing food reviews is discovering places that remind me why Southern Oregon is such a remarkable place to call home. Every once in a while, an afternoon road trip turns into something worth sharing, and this was certainly one of those occasions.
This time, Gary Bender of Palm Hours and I pointed the Tesla toward Galice for a foodie adventure that combined great conversation, breathtaking scenery, and two local businesses that delivered exactly what they promised.
The drive alone was reason enough to make the trip. Following the Rogue River through the winding mountain roads offers some of the most picturesque scenery in the region. Towering trees, rugged hillsides, and the flowing river create a setting that encourages you to slow down, take in the view, and appreciate everything Southern Oregon has to offer. Sometimes the journey is every bit as enjoyable as the destination.
Our destination was Aria’s Eats and Scoops N More, two neighboring local establishments that have become a popular stop for both residents and travelers exploring the Galice area.
I ordered Aria’s Smash Burger, and it turned out to be exactly what I had hoped for. The freshly prepared beef was flavorful and perfectly cooked, topped with crisp, traditional ingredients that complemented rather than overwhelmed the burger itself. Everything was served on a soft potato bun that held together beautifully from the first bite to the last. There were no unnecessary gimmicks or oversized toppings competing for attention. Instead, it was a classic smash burger prepared with care and quality ingredients, proving that simple food, when done well, is often the most satisfying.
Gary selected the Crispy Chicken Sandwich from Scoops N More. Featuring a crispy chicken breast topped with melted American cheese, the sandwich embraced the timeless appeal of a traditional favorite. The chicken was crisp on the outside, tender inside, and delivered exactly the kind of satisfying meal that keeps customers coming back.
What stood out most about our visit wasn’t simply the food. It was the entire experience. Good meals are often about much more than what’s on the plate. They’re about friendly local businesses, relaxing surroundings, meaningful conversation, and taking the time to enjoy an afternoon without feeling rushed. Galice offers all of that in abundance.
Small communities throughout Southern Oregon are filled with locally owned restaurants that deserve recognition, and that’s one of the reasons I enjoy seeking them out. Every visit supports hardworking business owners while giving readers another opportunity to discover places they may not have explored before.
