For over 155 years, Campbell Soup Company has been a household name synonymous with comforting bowls of soup. But in a bold move to reflect its evolving business model, the company is dropping the word “soup” from its name. From now on, it will be known simply as The Campbell’s Company.
This decision, announced by CEO Mark Clouse, signals a shift in the company’s direction. While Campbell’s soup remains a beloved staple in kitchens across the country, the company is expanding its portfolio beyond soups to include a wider range of products like snacks and jarred sauces. This strategic rebranding aims to align the company’s name with its more diversified offerings, as it pivots toward these increasingly popular food categories.
Clouse, in a statement to the press, emphasized that the name change is a “subtle but important” step in the company’s long-term vision. He explained that while Campbell’s soup has been at the heart of the company’s legacy, the new name better reflects the full scope of what the company now produces and markets.
“The Campbell’s name is iconic,” Clouse said. “We’ve spent over 150 years building a reputation that resonates with consumers, and our goal is to keep that legacy alive while showcasing the evolution of our product lines. We want to make sure that our name still carries the same trust and recognition, but also captures the variety and innovation we bring to the table today.”
Although the announcement marks a significant shift, the company’s core values remain firmly in place. Campbell’s will continue to produce its signature soups, but as part of its expansion, it will also focus more heavily on snacks like Goldfish crackers and Pace salsa, as well as jarred sauces, gravies, and other pantry staples. This move comes after years of adjusting to changing consumer tastes and the growing demand for quick, convenient, and versatile meal solutions.
The name change is also designed to keep pace with the broader trend of food brands that have been diversifying in response to changing consumer habits. With more and more shoppers seeking variety and new flavors, Campbell’s wants to position itself as a food company that can deliver on a wide range of culinary needs, not just a can of soup.
While the change has generated buzz, it won’t be official until shareholders give their approval at the company’s annual meeting in November. If passed, the new name will mark a new chapter in Campbell’s long and storied history, offering a modern twist on an old favorite while maintaining the brand equity built over more than a century.
So, whether you’re grabbing a can of tomato soup, a handful of Goldfish, or a jar of salsa, you’ll soon be doing so under the familiar, yet newly refreshed, Campbell’s banner. The soup might be out of the name, but the comfort and convenience it represents are here to stay.
