Stop number thirteen on my ongoing “Say Cheese” food adventure led me to a food truck that many locals have already been buzzing about, Fat Kid Food Co. If you follow Southern Oregon’s growing food truck scene, you have probably seen their name pop up recently. The crew just returned from competing on the Food Network’s Food Truck Challenge, and it is easy to see why they caught national attention.
Fat Kid Food Co. can often be found parked at The Growler Guys, located at 531 NE F Street in Grants Pass, though their schedule moves around depending on the day. The best way to track them down is through their social media pages, where they post current locations and updates.
For this stop on my cheese-themed journey, I ordered their signature grilled cheese creation, and it was anything but ordinary. This sandwich is built with a bold mix of flavors that might sound unusual at first but come together in a surprisingly balanced way. The lineup includes white cheddar, havarti, and Rogue Creamery blue cheese layered on thick-cut sourdough bread. The sandwich is finished with homemade razzleberry jam, a drizzle of local honey, and a crispy Parmesan crust pressed right into the bread.
The result is a grilled cheese that hits every flavor note you want. The cheeses melt together into a rich, creamy bite, while the blue cheese adds just enough tang to keep things interesting. The razzleberry jam is what really makes the sandwich stand out. It adds a bright pop of sweetness that cuts through the richness and ties the whole thing together. The sourdough bread holds everything in place with a satisfying crunch from the Parmesan crust.
It is a bold sandwich, but the flavors work remarkably well together.
While I was there, curiosity got the better of me, and I decided to try another menu item that had been getting plenty of attention: the Cherry Street Smash Burger.
I originally stopped by Fat Kid Food Co. after seeing them appear on the Food Network’s Food Truck competition, so expectations were already high. After taking a few bites of this burger, it quickly became clear why the truck has built such a loyal following.
The Cherry Street Smash Burger is everything a smash burger should be. The patties are pressed hard onto the grill, creating those crispy, caramelized edges that burger fans love. Each patty is well seasoned and stacked with crispy onions and a house-made secret sauce that adds a creamy, slightly tangy kick. Everything is served on a soft brioche bun that soaks up the flavor without falling apart.
The balance of textures is what makes this burger shine. The crisp edges of the beef, the crunch of the onions, and the softness of the bun all come together in a way that feels simple but incredibly satisfying. It is the kind of burger that reminds you why smash burgers have become so popular in the first place.
After finishing both dishes, one thing became clear. Fat Kid Food Co. is not just another food truck rolling through town. They are serving bold, creative comfort food that feels both fun and carefully crafted.
If you happen to see their truck around Southern Oregon, it is worth stopping. Whether you are craving an inventive grilled cheese or a classic smash burger done right, Fat Kid Food Co. is delivering flavors that are hard to forget.
As always, my reviews focus on the positive experiences I find while exploring local food. If I have a bad experience somewhere, I simply choose not to post about it. There is already enough negativity online, and my goal is to highlight the great food and hardworking people that make the local dining scene so enjoyable.
So here is a question for the community.
Is this the best smash burger in Southern Oregon?
