Over the weekend Grants Pass Police apprehended an individual on Saturday during a routine weekend patrol check in the downtown area. The arrested individual was identified as 27-year-old Vinnie Dale Shuler, taken into custody in the 300-block of SE H Street near Catalyst Pizza at 11:21 a.m. According to the Police Department, officers recognized Shuler from previous criminal incidents and were aware of a statewide felony warrant for his arrest issued by the Oregon State related to Parole Violation stemming from an assault conviction.
The apprehension was a result of proactive patrolling, with law enforcement officers spotting Shuler and acting on their knowledge of the outstanding warrant. Subsequently, Shuler was placed into custody. A consent search conducted during the arrest revealed that he was in possession of a soft armor vest and a Josephine County Sheriff’s Office uniform shirt. Both items were seized as evidence.
Vinnie Shuler was subsequently lodged at the Josephine County Jail on the no-bail warrant, along with facing a new charge of Felon in Possession of Body Armor. He remained in custody as of Sunday. The incident underscores the significance of proactive policing and the enforcement of warrants to address potential threats to public safety.
