The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office is requesting public assistance in a potential missing person case. On Friday at approximately 4:45 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a report of an abandoned backpack and dog leash found on the Rogue River Trail. There was no sign of a person or dog in the area.
On Saturday, a sheriff’s deputy hiked the trail and located the backpack about one mile northwest of the Grave Creek Boat Ramp. Despite verbal callouts and a drone search, no person or dog was found.
Further investigation revealed that the backpack might have been in the same location since Wednesday, May 15th. The contents of the backpack suggested the owner was preparing for a multi-day camping trip, as the items appeared unused. No identifying information was found in the backpack.
The Sheriff’s Office is concerned that the owner of the backpack may have become injured or lost. As of now, no missing person reports have been filed that match this situation, and there is no evidence of foul play.
The Sheriff’s Office is actively trying to locate the owner of the backpack. If you have any information regarding this investigation, please contact the Josephine
County Sheriff’s Office at (541)-474-5123.
