A coordinated investigation by regional law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrest of a Medford man this week after authorities uncovered extensive digital evidence connected to child exploitation. The suspect, identified as a forty seven year old Medford resident, was taken into custody at the Jackson County Parole and Probation Office following an active investigation involving multiple agencies dedicated to combating crimes against children.
The arrest stems from a case that began when investigators received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. That information led to subpoenas and ultimately to a search warrant executed at a home in the three hundred block of Golf View Drive in Medford earlier this year. During the search, detectives from the Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team, Medford Police Department and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office collected digital devices believed to contain illegal material. Parole and probation personnel assisted with the initial interview of the suspect while investigators searched the residence.
The forensic review of the seized devices was conducted by the Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force. During the examination, investigators located numerous images and videos classified as child sexual abuse material. The discovery of this content provided the basis for additional charges and expanded the scope of the case.
As the investigation progressed, detectives interviewed several individuals connected to the residence. According to those interviews, the suspect had reportedly moved to Oregon because of the state’s sex offender laws, a detail that added another layer of concern as investigators continued their work. The findings of the inquiry led to the suspect being charged with multiple counts of encouraging child sexual abuse in the second degree along with a parole violation related to possessing material depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child.
Once the investigation reached a point where probable cause was established, officers moved forward with the arrest at the parole and probation office. The suspect was lodged at the Jackson County Jail, where he is currently being held on the new charges and the parole violation.
The case highlights the continued collaboration between agencies working to protect children from online and digital exploitation. The Southern Oregon Child Exploitation Team was formed in mid twenty twenty to address the growing volume of technology driven crimes involving minors. It brings together investigators from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Medford Police Department, Oregon Department of Justice Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force and Homeland Security Investigations, working alongside local, state and federal prosecutors in both Jackson and Josephine counties. The Southern Oregon High Tech Crimes Task Force also plays a key role in these efforts through its specialized digital forensic capabilities.
Authorities have indicated that no additional information will be released at this time as the case continues through the legal process.
