In celebration of Drinking Water Week, slated for May 5-11, the Public Works Department is extending an invitation for individuals to explore and understand the journey our water undertakes. Scheduled for Wednesday, May 8, 2024, tours of both the Water Treatment and Restoration plants will provide an insightful glimpse into the intricate processes involved in water management.
Those interested in participating can schedule tours by reaching out to the department at 541-450-6110. Each tour will last approximately an hour, accommodating a maximum of eight individuals at a time. It’s important to note that due to the layout of the Water Treatment Plant, access involves stairs, necessitating the use of comfortable footwear.
The Water Filtration Plant serves a vital role in treating water sourced from the Rogue River before it is released into the reservoir and subsequently distributed to homes. Conversely, the Water Restoration Plant focuses on treating water discharged from residential drainage systems, ensuring its safety before reintroducing it downstream into the Rogue River.
These tours offer a unique opportunity for community members to gain firsthand knowledge of the processes involved in maintaining the safety and quality of our drinking water. Through education and engagement, the Public Works Department aims to foster a deeper appreciation for the vital resource that is accessible to us all.
