Jackson and Josephine counties, March 11, 2024 – In a significant move to foster innovation in the community college landscape, Rogue Community College (RCC) proudly announces its acceptance as a member of the League for Innovation in the Community College board. This international nonprofit organization, dedicated to cultivating innovation, champions essential topics for community colleges such as diversity, equity and inclusion, information technology, leadership development, and workforce development.
RCC’s inclusion in the League board comes as a result of its longstanding commitment to innovation and the distinguished history of RCC President Randy Weber with the League. His previous institution was a League board school, contributing to the board’s recognition of RCC as a valuable member.
RCC President Randy Weber shared, “The League CEO, Dr. Rufus Glasper, reached out to me and expressed the board’s interest in RCC joining. RCC was an attractive candidate because of the communities it serves, including people in rural and remote settings.”
The affirmation process involved the submission of an innovation report by RCC last fall, followed by a vote from current League board members, consisting of college chief executive officers (CEOs).
Joining the League for Innovation in the Community College board promises numerous benefits for RCC. Membership not only enhances RCC’s reputation as a leader in innovation but also opens doors to grant opportunities funded by national organizations. It provides increased professional development for college employees seeking to implement innovative strategies at RCC.
Weber emphasized, “Being a board member solidifies the college’s commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and requires them to remain invested in that commitment. The membership also allows RCC to learn from other board colleges about systems and implementations that could help the college provide new opportunities for its faculty, students, and the community.”
RCC’s board membership signifies its position as a national leader in innovation. Weber stated, “Other board colleges are very forward-thinking institutions in this space. We will learn from their efforts, as well as those from other non-educational organizations that choose to partner with the League on workforce development initiatives.”
Having been at the forefront of innovation with initiatives like the proprietary legacy information system (Rogue Net) and program delivery strategies in Career and Technical Education (CTE), RCC now gains a platform to share its work and receive feedback on how to expand further.
“A culture of innovation is critical in the foreseeable future for higher education. We must innovate to remain relevant in today’s educational landscape. This opportunity provides us access to other innovative and like-minded institutions to keep us sharp in that way,” said Weber.
