Downtown Grants Pass came alive Saturday morning as thousands of residents lined the streets for the annual Boatnik Memorial Day Parade, transforming the center of the city into a celebration of hometown pride, tradition, patriotism, and community spirit under beautiful Southern Oregon skies.
Long before the parade officially began, families were already gathering downtown with lawn chairs, coolers, flags, and children eager to watch one of Grants Pass’ most recognizable annual traditions roll through the streets once again. By midmorning, sidewalks were packed with spectators stretching across multiple downtown blocks as the city welcomed another year of Boatnik festivities.
The weather could not have been much better for the event. Sunshine and mild temperatures created nearly perfect parade conditions, giving residents an opportunity to enjoy a warm spring morning outdoors after weeks of inconsistent weather across the region. The bright conditions only added to the upbeat atmosphere that filled downtown throughout the day.
As expected with one of the largest events of the year in Josephine County, parking and traffic proved challenging for many attendees. The city’s famous Caveman identity, which has long been tied to Grants Pass history and culture, drew enthusiastic reactions from paradegoers as Caveman-themed appearances and displays reminded residents of the unique hometown tradition that continues to define the community decades later. From fur-covered costumes to enthusiastic crowd interaction, the Caveman presence added another layer of personality and local pride to the event.
Local sponsors and community organizations also played a major role in helping make the parade possible.
