What an eventful week it has been! Kicking off on Monday with an 11-hour stint alongside our dedicated Sheriff’s department was nothing short of eye-opening. Beginning with a brisk briefing, I then hit the streets on patrol with Deputy Shane Simon, witnessing firsthand the tireless efforts of our law enforcement team.
It’s alarming to note that, on average, only three deputies are available to cover the entire county. However, with the recent passing of the Sheriff district, we can anticipate up to five deputies on shift in the near future, a much-needed boost to our community’s safety.
Venturing into Cave Junction, we made pit stops at the Sheriff substation, engaged in traffic stops, responded to domestic calls, and even conducted a comprehensive tour of the Jail. In the midst of it all, we bravely faced the solemnity of a house call related to a tragic death.
Wrapping up the night on a positive note, we convened with the Moose Lodge for a fruitful community meeting. We tackled pertinent issues such as prevalent scams affecting our residents and imparted essential knowledge on how to safeguard against falling victim to such schemes.
Through it all, the commitment and dedication of our Sheriff’s office shone brightly. I cannot commend Deputy Simon enough for his professionalism and unwavering courtesy throughout our endeavors.
As I look forward to serving as your Commissioner, rest assured that such immersive experiences will only fuel my resolve to advocate for the betterment of our community. I eagerly anticipate embarking on more ride-alongs and collaborative efforts to ensure the safety and prosperity of all constituents.
Together, let’s continue to strive for a safer, more resilient community we can all be proud of.
