The City of Grants Pass is inviting residents to step into a direct role in shaping the city’s financial future, with applications now open for four positions on the Grants Pass Budget Committee. The committee plays a central role in reviewing and approving the city’s proposed spending plan before it advances to the City Council for final consideration.
The Budget Committee operates as a joint body composed equally of elected officials and community members. This structure is designed to balance institutional knowledge with public perspective, ensuring that financial decisions reflect both policy priorities and the diverse experiences of residents across the city. With half of the committee made up of citizens from the community at large, the process offers a meaningful opportunity for local involvement in how public funds are allocated.
Each year, the committee receives the Recommended Budget prepared by city staff. Members review revenue projections, departmental requests, capital improvement plans, and operational expenses. Through a series of public meetings, the committee evaluates the proposal in detail, discusses funding priorities, and ultimately approves a budget for consideration by the City Council. While the Council holds final authority, the committee’s work forms the foundation of the city’s annual financial plan.
City officials emphasize that the committee benefits from a wide range of viewpoints. Representation from across the community is encouraged, and applicants with varying backgrounds and perspectives are welcome to apply. The goal is to ensure that fiscal discussions reflect the priorities, concerns, and ideas of Grants Pass residents from all walks of life.
To be eligible, applicants must be residents and registered electors within the City of Grants Pass. The positions are volunteer roles, but they carry significant responsibility, as committee members are tasked with reviewing millions of dollars in public spending and helping guide long-term financial planning.
Applications are available at the City Administration Office, located at 101 N.W. A Street in Grants Pass. Interested residents may also complete the application online by visiting the city’s official form portal at https://www.grantspassoregon.gov/FormCenter/Administration-10/City-Committee-Commission-Appointment-Ap-65. The deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
Following the application period, candidates will be interviewed by the Grants Pass City Council. Appointments are scheduled to be made during the Council meeting on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
Participation on the Budget Committee offers residents a front-row seat to the city’s financial decision-making process. From infrastructure investments and public safety funding to parks, utilities, and administrative services, the annual budget shapes nearly every aspect of municipal operations. Those selected will contribute directly to conversations that determine how taxpayer dollars are prioritized and spent.
For residents interested in civic engagement and public service, the open positions represent an opportunity to play a meaningful role in the stewardship of Grants Pass’ financial future.
