Oregonians visiting the Oregon Secretary of State’s website will find a noticeably updated experience following the launch of a redesigned online platform intended to make state government services easier to access, navigate, and use across computers, smartphones, and tablets.
The updated website represents a modernization effort by the Oregon Secretary of State’s Office to improve how residents interact with one of the state’s most frequently used government resources. While the information and services available through the site remain largely unchanged, the redesign focuses on improving accessibility, organization, search capabilities, and overall user experience.
The Secretary of State’s Office serves a wide range of functions that affect residents, businesses, researchers, and local governments throughout Oregon. From registering new businesses and accessing public records to researching historical archives and finding election information, the agency’s website acts as a central hub for many of the state’s most commonly requested public services.
Secretary of State Tobias Read said the redesign reflects a broader effort to make government information more accessible and responsive to the public.
“Whether you’re starting a business, researching Oregon history, looking up election information, or accessing public records, you should be able to find what you need quickly,” Read said. “Government works best when people can easily get to the information and services they need. This redesign is another step toward my goal of making state government more responsive and easier to navigate for all Oregonians.”
Although visitors will immediately notice a cleaner visual appearance, the project extends beyond aesthetics. State officials say the redesigned website introduces several functional improvements designed to reduce the amount of time users spend searching for information while improving accessibility for individuals using assistive technologies.
Among the most significant changes is a redesigned homepage that places the agency’s most frequently accessed services in more prominent locations, allowing visitors to reach commonly used resources with fewer clicks. Navigation has also been reorganized by division, making it easier for users to locate information based on the specific office or service they need.
Search capabilities have also been enhanced, enabling visitors to locate documents, forms, and information more efficiently. Searchable data tables have been incorporated into portions of the website, making large collections of information easier to browse and sort. The site also features updated icons, a more consistent visual design, and scenic photography drawn from the Oregon State Archives collection.
The redesign places particular emphasis on mobile accessibility, recognizing that an increasing number of Oregonians access government services through smartphones and tablets rather than traditional desktop computers. Officials say the new platform is designed to perform more reliably across a variety of screen sizes and devices while maintaining consistent functionality.
Despite the extensive visual overhaul, the Secretary of State’s Office emphasized that most of the website’s existing content remains familiar. Information has largely been retained, although some pages have been reorganized to improve usability and streamline navigation. Visitors who have difficulty locating specific information are encouraged to use the search function available on every page.
Not every online service operated by the agency is included in the redesign. Several specialized web applications will continue operating with their existing appearance and functionality while future modernization efforts are planned.
Those systems include ORESTAR and OCVR for the Elections Division, BERI and OBR for the Corporation Division, MUNI for the Audits Division, and OARD and ORMS for the State Archives. According to the agency, improvements to those individual applications are expected to occur over time through separate modernization efforts.
The website redesign reflects an ongoing initiative to improve digital access to state government rather than a one-time project. Officials say they will continue gathering public feedback following the launch and will use that input to guide future updates and enhancements.
As more government services continue shifting online, state officials say maintaining an accessible, reliable, and user-friendly website remains an important part of providing efficient public service to residents across Oregon. The redesign is intended to make it easier for individuals, businesses, researchers, and local governments to connect with the information and resources they need while reducing barriers to accessing state services in an increasingly digital environment.
