After years of evolution and a rebranding effort under owner Elon Musk, Twitter has officially changed its domain name to X.com. The new domain went live early Friday morning, and users were greeted with a notification banner at the bottom of the screen upon accessing the site through a web browser.
“Welcome to X.com!” the banner announced. “We are letting you know that we are changing our URL, but your privacy and data protection settings remain the same.” The message also included a link to the site’s privacy policy. Previously, both X.com and Twitter.com could be used to access the site. Now, the Twitter URL will automatically redirect to X.com.
“All core systems are now on X.com,” Musk confirmed Friday in a post about the transition.
This domain change is one of the most significant alterations to the platform since Musk acquired it for $44 billion in 2022, following the rebranding from Twitter to X. Despite the change, some users have expressed a preference for the original Twitter name in responses to the @X account’s announcement about the new domain.
